Liquid Gold

Liquid Gold.

During my sunset excursion to Jordan Pond our group had many opportunities for a variety of subject matter. The obvious was the grand landscape including all of the pond and the reflection. As the sun dropped over the horizon though, the peaks of the mountains were in sunlight while the pond was in shadow. This allowed us to capture nice images of the rocks and reeds mainly dark while the gold of the reflecting colors lit up the reflection. One of participants found a really nice section of clean rock, reed and reflection allowing a very simple composition without too many distractions. I asked if they minded me copying their composition and they said it would be fine. They commented that when someone wants to copy a composition, it is a compliment, I totally agree. Too many photographers feel someone doing something similar is “stealing” their work, but it isn’t something they created, they simply saw something. Especially at a conference like Out of Acadia sharing ideas and knowledge is what will help yourself as well as others to grow. It was very refreshing to see the interaction of the participants at the event. If someone doesn’t want to copy your composition, maybe it is time to recompose…
