Nature’s Palette.

I looked out the back door and saw a tinge of color coming to life over “The 3 Chairs” and put the camera on the tripod and just waited for the sky to be painted. I had just bird the bird feeders back out and I know the birds were trying to figure out why I was just standing there instead of filling up on some seeds and dried mealworms. It was my time to appreciate what they see every day. A perfect crisp and beautiful fall morning. You can see I have extended my raised gardens by another 2×4 on the right side of the frame. Our backyard isn’t just beautiful it is functional to us as we grow a lot of vegetables each year. Our little slice of Heaven up here in Bear Woods.

Fog, Fall Colors, and The 3 Chairs.

When the cold front came through the other day dropping our temperatures 40 degrees in 24 hours, we stayed in the fog for almost a day. We are about 3,000 feet in altitude and often that puts us in the middle of rain clouds. I wanted to make sure I captured what would be the peak of the Fall colors for us because I knew the wind would blow down a lot of leaves. It also gave me a chance to play with Luminosity Masks in Lumenzia and Photoshop. To me it is the easiest program to learn and work with Luminosity Masks (software that helps to make precise adjustments to parts of an image). I am immersing myself in tutorials to learn more about using the software, so stay tuned. One thing I want to do with my videos is start to do screen captures and incorporate my processing into them as well.

Finally Fall

Finally Fall.

I think it is safe to declare that Fall has arrived here in Bear Woods. The trees are starting to change, although I don’t think we will have a prolonged colorful Fall due to the drought we have been experiencing. Temps here have stayed in the low 70’s for the past week, lows in the 60’s and 50’s, with a possible freeze soon. I love the colors in the sky during Fall, they seem to be a glowing pastel more so than any other time of the year. It is hard to ever get tired of the views over “The 3 Chairs”.

The NEW Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 Di III RXD for Sony FE.

Unboxing video link below.

On Tuesday I received my Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 Di III RXD lens. It has been back-ordered due to the popularity of the lens, but it made it in time for me to take it to Montana in a few days. I am really excited about the lens because it is extremely compact and lightweight, and extremely sharp. It will go very nicely on the front of my Sony a7Riii! Weather permitting I will get to shoot some night skies, waterfalls, sunsets, blah, blah, blah, all the good stuff! This is my first trip to Glacier and Kalispell in about 25 years, so I am really looking forward to capturing some nice images. I hope to put out several videos while there and after I return. I will put together a “Packing for Montana” video today and share it tonight. If you get a chance, please Subscribe to my YouTube Channel for the latest videos, click on the bell for notifications. Thanks!

Workflow

Workflow.

Photography, like any other job, requires practice and a routine. A good practice and routine is what makes you proficient in your work. A huge part of the photographic process is the work done once the shutter is released. It is also the part that frustrates so many photographers. Like any other work, if you only do it occasionally, it is tougher to remember all the right steps. In post processing the steps are often referred to as “Workflow”. The way you become proficient in your workflow is to do it each day. I constantly mention in my lectures that I do, and you as a photographer should take one image each day and process it as well. This makes you proficient in the use of your camera and especially in your workflow. For me it is easy when I am at home, I just step into the backyard and photograph “The 3 Chairs”. Frustration down, Proficiency up…less stress…

Time at Home

Time at home.

It seems odd that I am home for almost a month. This has been a busy travel year, but it is good to be at home to enjoy Bear Woods, well except the Georgia heat anyway. It has been a scorcher this year. I have been able to work on some programs updating them for upcoming presentations like this Thursday at the Smyrna Community Center for the Smyrna Chapter of the Georgia Nature Photographers Association. I also have a presentation on Saturday to the Big Canoe Photographers, and then a big presentation in Orlando to the Orlando Camera Club on September 9. I have come up with a name for my project of photographing working animals, which will include service animals, therapy animals, Police K9s, and dogs that have “saved” someone, and I will soon announce the title after much thought. My goal is to have a page celebrating these special animals and avenues which you can directly support the organizations that make their service possible. For now here is a recent sunset over “The 3 Chairs”.

Summer Relief

Summer Relief.

I am really enjoying the brief relief we are experiencing from the typical summer heat we have with a few days of mornings in the 50s and evenings in the low 70s. The birds are loving it too as their activity is high right now. Lots of birds, especially juveniles, flying in to check things out. Lots of Warblers and Vireo chasing the locals around. I know it won’t last long, so I am going to enjoy my coffee on the porch…I might even take my camera out with me!
