Orchard Oriole and Crepe Myrtle.

The great birds just keep on showing up this year at Bear Woods. I was shooting yesterday when this beautiful female Orchard Oriole showed up and hunted in the Crepe Myrtles for a while. She picked at the flower heads for insects for about 20 minutes or so before flying off to the trees nearby. Orchard Oriole.

All the practice of shooting in the Bird Studio has been paying off up here in the Smokys. A lot of the migrants are moving through and some summer residents are building nest and claiming territories. Yesterday our group watched, followed and photographed a pair of Orchard Orioles. This was especially rewarding since it was a new bird for many of the group. This was a male off of Hyatt Lane in Cades Cove. Later in the day we did get to see and photograph a lot of Black Bears as well, but with a lot larger crowd than our Oriole.
