Time at home.

It seems odd that I am home for almost a month. This has been a busy travel year, but it is good to be at home to enjoy Bear Woods, well except the Georgia heat anyway. It has been a scorcher this year. I have been able to work on some programs updating them for upcoming presentations like this Thursday at the Smyrna Community Center for the Smyrna Chapter of the Georgia Nature Photographers Association. I also have a presentation on Saturday to the Big Canoe Photographers, and then a big presentation in Orlando to the Orlando Camera Club on September 9. I have come up with a name for my project of photographing working animals, which will include service animals, therapy animals, Police K9s, and dogs that have “saved” someone, and I will soon announce the title after much thought. My goal is to have a page celebrating these special animals and avenues which you can directly support the organizations that make their service possible. For now here is a recent sunset over “The 3 Chairs”.

Southwest Florida Eagle’s Nest.

While I was in Cape Coral I decided that I would take a drive to the SWFL Eagle’s nest that is featured on webcams. When we arrived at the nest we were greeted with incredible light. One of the Eagles, the female known as Harriet, was out on a limb sunning herself. She preened for a while and you could see movement every once in a while in the nest from the two Eaglettes. Some Grackles kept flying near the nest, probably trying to get scraps, and the adult Eagle was not happy. Finally she flew closer to the nest and began vocalizing. This did the trick and the Grackles kept their distance. I never get tired of watching Eagles. I never thought I would have the opportunity to do so in my life when I was a teen in the 70s.

Be sure to check out my website for the new lectures and workshops I have added. I will be in Fort Meyers, New Jersey, Toledo, Jackson, WY, and Grandfather Mountain during the next few months!

More Cute Fawn Overload!

More Cute Fawn Overload!

I took a one day hiatus from the cute fawn overload, but they are back for another day. These 3 took turns napping while one would stay on alert. That is common among herd animals for their safety and protection. This was the rare moment when all 3 were mostly awake, the one in the back is fading quickly again.

If you get a chance, stop by my website, www.bearwoodsphotography.com, for the latest updates on lectures, presentations and workshops. I will be presenting to the Big Canoe Photographers July 8 on Landscape Photography. I will be at NECCC in Amherst in a few weeks doing my “Designing a Landscape” presentation, and at SWMCCC in Holland, MI a couple weeks later doing several different presentations. I have lots of local Georgia presentations on the calendar and would love to see some old friends there. In October I will be at Photo Plus Expo in NYC doing a presentation on October 28 on “Travel and Landscape Photography” at the Javits Center. All these and others are all listed on the website. I hope to see you soon!

Lectures and Presentations.

I love doing presentations and lectures for camera clubs and groups. This year is going to be a busy one! I am doing several presentations for the local chapters of the GNPA in the next few months, as well as the Roswell Photographic Society. I will also be presenting for the Huntsville Photographic Society in April and the Booth Museum of Western Art in April as well. I will be speaking again this year at the NECCC (New England Camera Club Council) Convention, and a first time at the SWMCCC (Southwestern Michigan Council of Camera Clubs). In addition to those I will be at Out of Acadia in October for some classroom and field lectures and workshops. I hope you will take the time to come if you are in the area of these events. If you are interested in checking if I can come speak to your group please contact me. I don’t have a lot of open dates but I love talking photography! I am trying to keep up with the dates on my website so you can always check there for dates as well.

This is a beautiful Mountain Bluebird that makes an appearance during my Bird Photography presentations, not the bird, but the image from the Grand Tetons last year.

Father and Son.

At my house I have 2 “Bird Studios” where I photograph the birds regularly. One is just outside my office bathroom window, the other is off the back porch about 15 feet. I am regularly searching the woods and roadsides for new stumps and limbs that I can use to give it a fresh look. Last week I found and really nice stump from a sourwood tree that formed a “cup” at the base where it had broken. The Bluebirds love it because I can place a bunch of mealworms and they have easy access to them. I like it because it makes for a great place to photograph the birds. I was treated to Dad flying in while one of the last year’s males was feeding. I will often set up the camera on the porch, sit there with my cup of morning coffee and just wait for the action. The birds are used to me being on the porch, so they aren’t alarmed at the sight of me or the sound of the camera. If you are in the Dahlonega area, I will be doing a presentation Friday night to the North Georgia Photography Club on Bird Photography. Details are on my website under the Events tab.

North Georgia Photography Club tonight.

Tonight I will have the honor of presenting to the North Georgia Photography Club in Dahlonega, GA. They are a great group of folks who love to go out and shoot a lot! They share a lot of information among their members as well. They meet at the University of North Georgia Continuing Education building, in Dahlonega, Georgia at 6:30pm. I am sure they would love to have visitors, you probably will end up joining the group! My presentation tonight is “Chasing Your Passion”. It is about my journey in nature photography and some tips on chasing your own passion. I will even talk about my favorite backyard scene: “The 3 Chairs” and how they came to be.

Here is a link to their website: http://www.northgeorgiaphotographyclub.com/
