“Working” a scene.
I posted an image the other day of the Courthouse Towers and a reflection. The puddle was about 200 yards from the road so I could either walk with tunnel vision to the puddles I saw, or I could look along the way for other compositions that intrigued me. About 30 yards or so from the road was a slight incline with this skeleton of a tree on top. I decided to place it in my composition to the left, since it leaned to the right, and draw the focus of viewer to the rock formation. I started at a lower perspective but I noticed the rock on the left, the 3 Gossips, was clipped and became a distraction. I moved my perspective of view to the point where both rock formations were visible and the tree sort of “fit” into the open area perfectly. Tunnel vision in photography, and in life, limit the possibilities. It never hurts to be an observer, you will see things hat so many times would be easy to simply pass by without a second thought.

Courthouse Towers Reflection.

The rains in Moab last week offered some great opportunities to capture some beautiful reflections on the rocks around the Courthouse Towers as well as other rock formations. On the day we went down to the rocks, we were very fortunate to have some clouds moving through while still offering some nice blue skies. The weather definitely offered me some opportunities that I had not ever been able to capture before and I have been going to Moab for about 25 years. We went back later that day and the puddles were gone, however, rain continued off and on during the entire week, a rarity for Moab.
