Eastern Box Turtle

About a week ago we found a newly hatched Eastern Box Turtle in the backyard. He was a little bigger than my thumbnail. He was chowing down on an earthworm. I saw it again this morning and it is neat to know so much of the wildlife feels safe enough to raise their young in Bear Woods. Last night I was out shooting some of the coneflowers when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I went to see what it was and realized it was an adult Box Turtle. It looks like a young male because of the reddish eyes and the flatter shell. I am not sure that it could be the dad of our little turtle in the backyard but if not…we might have a bale of turtles in the yard! I got down to ground level to shoot straight into the face of the turtle for this one. Gotta love the sharpness of the Tamron macro lens!
