1/15th of a second at 400mm…handheld…

A final test of a lens I will be shooting moving critters is the slow shutter speed, handheld, racked all the way out on the zoom ring test. I’m not looking for birds in flight, instead a subject I have to work to get parallel to, and in an odd position, so it isn’t “ideal” for handheld shooting. I found this butterfly after having been in the heat and humidity of the Butterfly House for about 2 hours, so I was feeling I needed Vibration Compensation. I positioned myself as parallel as possible, slowed my breathing down and finally slowly exhaled, releasing the shutter button at the end of the exhale (that is the proper technique, not holding one’s breath). I snapped of 3 or 4 frames and was very pleased that the image was extremely sharp. Have I mentioned how much I like this lens?
