Mingo Falls.

 

With our Great Smoky Mountains workshop coming up in just 2 weeks, Cecil and I felt we should scout some alternate locations due to the wildfires in the area last year. We started at Mingo Falls in Cherokee, NC. What a beautiful waterfall! It is located on the Cherokee Reservation but no special permits are needed to access it. We had trouble getting good directions to it for a while because we didn’t know the name of it and had asked another photographer but they didn’t really want to give us the information. We found it though, once we knew the name very easily. It is a relatively short walk, the first 100 yards are the toughest, it is a good climb but concrete steps make is very tolerable. the remaining walk is pretty easy. Once you get there, you shoot from a bridge/platform. It will be a great place to offer to the group as a location. It was well worth the walk and we got some wonderful images there. The wildfire damage in Gatlinburg is heartbreaking. A lot of areas are showing signs of rebirth and growth, but driving through some areas is surreal. You see chimneys sticking up in an areas that used to homes. There are a lot of construction crews working hard to rebuild the area as well. Such a beautiful and special area before and it will be again some day.
