Road to the Horse 2017

Road to the Horse.

Evelyn and I have been in Lexington with some friends from Angels on Horseback watching the Road to the Horse. Remember, I am not really a big horse person, but am fascinated by it all. It is an event that 4 folks, this year all female, have 2 sessions in 2 days and then a competition on the 3rd to achieve certain goals. The colts are 2 year olds and have never had contact with a trainer. The competitors all use natural horsemanship techniques and honestly it is really interesting to watch. Friday and Saturday watching them meet the horses for the first time to watching them ride over and through some obstacles was really incredible. I look forward to the finals today! During the event they have several previous winners and trainers do clinics and exhibitions. One of the exhibits was a horseman named Dan James. He did some basic stuff but at the end road around the arena standing on two of the horses while others ran beside them. Lots of showmanship and pretty fun to photograph. I am sure we will return next year. I have to make sure Evelyn doesn’t try this trick though!

  1. That’s incredible! I’d never heard of this before. Would absolutely be something to see and experience.
