Mobile Wrap Up

Mobile Wrap up.
I am safely back in Bear Woods, home from a great trip in Mobile. Thank you to all of the 60+ that attended our lecture on Friday night at Calagaz Photo. Thank you as well to the 15 folks we had in attendance for our workshop on Saturday and Sunday. The crazy traffic on the Bayway and Causeway caused a little stress, but the Osprey still cooperated. The weather messed with the birds a little but we still spent some great time learning and photographing our feathered friends. Thank you to our friends Jon and Julie for allowing us to stay with them during our visit, as well as Marie who helped us keep things running smoothly, you guys are the best! Thank you to MindShift Gear for donating an Ultralight Dual 25L as a door prize!
For folks looking for a great destination for some incredible bird photography opportunities, please check out the Mobile area. The Audubon Park on Dauphin Island is fantastic and will get better in a few weeks with all the migrant birds. Photographing on the Mobile Causeway and visiting the 5 Rivers Delta Park will be well worth the visit. We saw lots of Eagles, Osprey, song birds, and even a Kestrel on this visit. This is an image of the female Osprey that we photographed on several occasions. This was Sunday morning after a busy day of nest building with her mate. He flew in with a fish and wasn’t sharing it with her. She voiced her displeasure loudly. When the Kestrel flew in and the male flew off with the fish, she decided it would be best to just go and get dinner herself! When 2 Bald Eagles and a Pelican were seen following Dad around with his remaining fish, she felt eating the fish down low on a secluded branch would be a wise choice. For our group it was only about 50 feet away from us. She tolerated us clicking away as long as the Eagles didn’t discover her and her catch!
