Need Practice, Take a Ferry!

Need practice, take a Ferry.
One of the bonuses this weekend was getting some practice photographing birds in flight. The morning was cloudy and windy but after we scouted the bird park on Dauphin Island we decided to take a Ferry over to Gulf Shores. I noticed all the birds lining up behind the ferry so I naturally grabbed the camera and did some shooting. Nothing is better practice, and frustrating, than to shoot moving birds from a moving and rocking boat. It is nearly impossible to use a tripod or monopod for work like this so hand-holding the camera is the preferred method. If the water is calm I prefer using a monopod to help steady the lens as well. It was fun and I actually captured some nice images like these two of a Ring-billed Gull.
