Raspberry Juice

Raspberry Juice.

Two of the hardest birds to identify to many folks are the House Finch vs the Purple Finch. They look very similar but one thing they say to tell the Purple Finch apart is “they look like they have had their head dipped in raspberry juice.” There are a few other things especially if the female is nearby, but the whole raspberry juice thing is pretty good. Their heads just “pop” with color. I get them at my feeders each fall and sometimes in the winter. This year I have had more than usual. I decided to set up and wait for them to give me an opportunity to capture that “raspberry” head in an image. For 2018 I will be doing my Bluebird Calendar, but I will also be doing a Birds Calendar as well. I think he may make it to the pages…
