Mother and Child Reunion

Mother and Child Reunion.
This is one of the last fledglings with Mom visiting last night. They are in the yard many times a day since it offers open spaces to learn to hunt. They also visit the mealworm feeder or in this case, as you can see, I hide some of the dried mealworms in cavities in the post. It sort of gets them to hunt. Now please don’t confuse the title of the image with the song by Paul Simon. The song is actually based on a Chicken and Egg Sandwich on a menu in a Chinese Restaurant. Great song, funny origin. Back to the birds. It is great to sit and watch the juveniles perch on the post or anything else and hunt the insects in the yard. One of them has figured out that some of the slow moving bees near the hives make for a great snack…

  1. The title immediately made me start singing the song in my head ha-ha. Great shot! I haven’t seen the blue birds around our house for a few weeks but the last time I did there were a few young ones hanging with an adult. Lately I have been blessed with a bunch of Mississippi Kites hunting flying insects around the yard. Watching them fly is pretty awesome!

Mississippi Kites would be really cool! The Bluebirds should return. Keep singing!

      • I am sure they are still around. I just haven’t been outside at the right times. The Mississippi Kites are awesome. I hope they stay for a while although I know they will be gone for winter. They aren’t as timid as the red shoulder hawks and don’t fly off when I get close to a tree they are perched in. They have been getting an all you can eat buffet with all the dragon flies and beetles around here.

        That is so cool.
