Ruby-throated Hummingbird in flight

Ruby-throated Hummingbird in flight.

The past few days Evelyn and I have had this evening ritual where we go out and watch the “feeder wars”. The sound of small fighter jets battling in midair for supremacy. Territorial disputes at high speed with high speed banking turns, rapid acceleration from quick drops in altitude. All of it from roughly 10 or 15 Hummingbirds either wanting to get a drink or just stopping others from drinking from “their” feeder. I know whoever made the soundtrack for Star Wars used Hummingbirds as their inspiration. These guys are just awesome to watch, photographing them is a challenge. This was one of the few I was able to get of them during combat. I guess I need to go into town and get a few more feeders…
