As the Sun Paints the Landscape

As the sun paints the landscape.
While in Zion National Park, we got up early one morning to actually shoot a sunrise. Cecil Holmes had not been to Zion so we decided to head to the eastern side and the great rock formations for the morning. I had seen this particular formation with a tree on the top, thinking the sun would light this rock up setting it against a blue sky, we set up. As the sun rose we quickly realized that our tree was going to be in shadow for an extended period of time due to the sun rising behind a mesa to the east. We really didn’t mind waiting the extra 30 to 45 minutes, it was a great morning outside. Finally when the light struck the tree, it lit up like a lighthouse just like we had hoped. It only took a short 10 minutes or so for the light to reach our location and we stayed and did several other compositions from that spot. Patience again paid off.
