The Watchman

The most iconic sunset location in Zion National Park is to photograph the Watchman from the bridge at Canyon Junction. Any given night, you will surely meet up with 50 friends, some with cameras to enjoy seeing the light fade off of the face of the mountain. This was the night before the workshop started as we were heading out to scout our locations for stars and the Milky Way. The night we shot this as a group was much better with some clouds to give the sky some color, but I didn’t get a chance to shoot it that night except with the phone. There is just something that screams “American Landscape” seeing the place, a river in the foreground reflecting the light of the sky against a huge set of rock faces. It is the reason the Southwest region is so popular among tourist from so many countries. Photographs may look good, but they truly can’t capture the beauty of the scene. You should go.
