The Approach

On Saturday morning it was pretty windy when we were photographing the cranes and geese as they were feeding in a downed cornfield. The folks at Bosque del Apache, plant corn and other crops during the year to feed the birds that come in fall and winter. Then they push down a couple rows every few days for the birds to feed. As the birds flew in from the south and west, they would almost hover as they looked for a place to land in the flock of birds below. Against the New Mexico Blue skies it made for some great opportunities for capturing images of birds in flight.
