Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day in the US is celebrated each year and is a day set aside to thank those who served in the Military. I always have mixed emotions about the holiday. First, I am very grateful to people who served before, during and after the time that I did. Secondly, we should make every day Veteran’s Day, not limit it to one day. People often make comments about someone joining the Military because they had no other avenue to travel. I guess it bothers me to think that someone would criticize someone for choosing a noble and honorable field. Someone who ultimately is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, if needed, to preserve someone’s rights.

Let’s take a look at that for a moment. I laugh at some of the things that are going on now-a-days. We have people upset about a red cup at a coffee shop. It is your right to be upset…thank a Veteran and make your own coffee put it in whatever cup you want. I hear of how people get offended about so many things, it is their right. Grow up, no one can offend you, you allow yourself to get offended by something. I hear people in this country refer to themselves as Something(insert your origin here)-Americans. It is your right, thank a Veteran, then stop. We are Americans. That’s it, plain and simple, Americans. Teach your kids about their heritage, but never diminish their being an American first and foremost. We are all brothers and sisters in a country of freedoms guaranteed us by people willing to defend those rights. Don’t devalue their efforts by creating divide because of ethnic background.

Thanks to all those that serve. Thank you for the freedoms you make possible. Thank you for allowing me to sleep peacefully each night. Oorah and Semper Fidelis.
