A Picnic and a Harris Hawk.

Evelyn and I attended a picnic yesterday. It was for the Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia. We have been members and involved with them for about 15 years. It is a cause we believe in strongly. They preserve lands from development and have done a great job in protecting the watersheds in the area. I will post more on them hopefully tomorrow. Every year they hold an annual picnic to inform our members about projects they are involved in and also have a speaker that talks about a Land Trust nearby and what they are doing. They are not expensive to join but the more members the better. Also if you have land and would like to explore the tax benefits of preserving your land, they can help. We donate our photography for their newsletters and other uses along with photographing the picnic each year. Anything can help. Please check out your local Land Trust, or better yet become a member of ours!

At the picnic for the past few years, some falconers have been kind enough to bring a few birds for people to see. It is very informative and just down right awesome. This year was a bonus, Evelyn got to call a young Harris Hawk in to land on her hand. She was a little apprehensive at first when the bird was coming in but once it landed to retrieve it’s “tidbit”, she was all smiles! Such an incredible sight to see, both the bird and Evelyn’s smile!

All 3 images were made with the Tamron SP 150-600mm lens on a Nikon D7200, Aperture Priority, f11, ISO 3200, varied shutter speeds, Sirui P204s monopod with L10 head, Peak Design Slide, Lowepro Flipside 500AW, processed in Lightroom CC.

  1. I especially love the shot of Evelyn holding the hawk–wonderful angle and expression on her face.
