Small Town America

Small Town America.

I live in a small town. We have a couple of traffic lights, we have several of great BBQ joints, we even have a Walmart (which makes if feel like a not so small town), and we have a Main Street. We also have what so many towns in America lack, pride. This is only the 2nd year we made it down from the mountain to see the fireworks display, but it won’t be the last. As I see that so many towns and cities cancelled their fireworks displays because of inclement weather, my town won’t do that. They celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July, rain or shine.

Along with our neighbors, we enjoyed a great dinner at a local Inn. Then we moved our party over to an unoccupied area at a local cemetery. There was dancing, laughter and fun. We watched as locals prepped us with their fireworks displays. We even watched as our Creator lit up the sky with lightning to show He can put on a show too! Promptly at 10:05p.m., as promised, the fireworks began. The rain started lightly about 10 minutes prior to that. We didn’t care, we “oooohhhhh and aaahhhhh’d” at the fireworks. I shot my pictures like their was no rain. We even sat and listened as our neighbor put on his bagpipes at the end of the show and played for those who would listen. Some even danced, all applauded. Evelyn said to me, “I will always remember this evening”.

Small Town America, I wouldn’t live anywhere else. Well done Jasper, Georgia.
