Happy Independence Day America!

America today celebrates the 239 anniversary of declaring it’s independence from Britain. We have had our ups and downs but I like to believe at the heart of it we are going in the right direction. The initial reason was of course political but the Declaration of Independence went beyond political when it said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” I would like to believe that over the past 239 years we have made strives to show all men are created equal. We do still have work to do. The country was founded on the belief of freedom, individual freedoms and equality under the law. I don’t agree with everyone’s definition of freedom, as many don’t believe in mine. However with that being said, our system has shown that short of actual crimes being committed in the name of a religion or belief, we don’t put one religion above another. Even though our forefathers were Christian, they made sure it would be treated equally with other religions. Even though our forefathers were of European heritage, we are making strives to show all people’s will be treated equally.

Today, I want to take a moment to say thank you to those who have fought for freedom from the soldiers who died during the Revolutionary War, to the forefathers, every American serviceman, Civil Rights patriots, and even those who have fought to marry who they chose to pursue their happiness with, for these are what makes this country great. They share a one thing, the Pioneer Spirit, the ability to die if necessary to make things better for those who will come after them. If we truly believe in our Creator, we must believe that Creator would want all people to live free.
