Coneflower heads

Coneflower heads.

We try not to trim back all of the summer flowers until the Goldfinches and other birds have had a chance to pick out some vital food. The goldfinches will work the coneflowers really hard and it is fun to watch them. I personally like to photograph them on foggy days to isolate the heads against a clean background. Converting them to BW just adds to the mood to me as well.

Tamron 28-300mm Di VC PZD lens on a Nikon D-800, Aperture Priority, f6.3, -.7 stops of exposure compensation, ISO 800, resulting in a shutter speed of 1/25th of a second, Vanguard Alta Pro tripod and BBH-200 head, processed in Lightroom 5, converted to BW in On One Suite 9.
