Harris Hawk

Harris Hawk.

Another hawk that the Falconer had at the picnic Saturday was a Harris Hawk. Harris Hawks are incredible hunters in the wild. They actually hunt in groups. They are most often found in the southwest deserts. They will fly around driving their prey to a hawk that is waiting on a perch. I saw a great show once and had the opportunity to see a few a couple years ago in Arizona. Incredible!

Tamron SP 150-600mm Di VC USD lens on a Nikon D-800, Aperture Priority, f6.3, -.7 stops of exposure compensation, ISO 800, resulting in a shutter speed of 1/80th of a second, I used a Vanguard monopod to help keep it steady but also used the VC feature of the lens to add stability as well, processed in Lightroom 5.
