I use a circular polarizer for a large number of the images I shoot, primarily when I am wanting to reduce glare and increase saturation in the image. There are times though that minimizing the amount of polarization in order to get a nice reflection is nice for the composition as well. When the background is in a similar light to the subject it seems to work very well.
